One for the History Books: UBE Arizona visits the African American Museum of Southern Arizona

On Saturday, March 7th, twenty-six UBE Arizona members and guests enjoyed a personal guided tour of the incredible African American Museum of Southern Arizona (AAMSAZ.org) on the campus of The University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

The wonderfully informative tour was given by the museum’s Director, Ms. Nikieia Johnson, who later addressed the group at our Chapter Meeting and Lunch, providing an engaging and moving glimpse into her personal journey through years of civic and social engagement and advocacy to the museum’s directorship. We were also pleased to welcome museum volunteer Ms. Rose Taulton, who was named Volunteer of the Year by the Southern Arizona Volunteer Management Association in February, to our luncheon.

Rev. Ben Garren, Chaplain of the Episcopal Campus Ministry at The University of Arizona, also gave a presentation to our membership during the meeting. Rev. Ben gave us insight into the challenges young people are facing on campus and in their lives and described the many different spiritual and tangible ways Episcopal Campus Ministry supports those students.

UBE Arizona is proud to support the work of the African American Museum of Southern Arizona and the Episcopal Campus Ministry at The University of Arizona and is grateful for all they do for our communities!
